It's weaning time at Tom Brothers Ranch and we are excited about this calf crop!
Weaning time is collecting a weight and docility score on every calf and submitting that valuable information to the American Simmental Association in time to be used for the upcoming genetic evaluation in June. Rather than using actual weights to make decisions about future bull prospects and female replacements, we wait until the adjusted weaning weights and ratios are received to make our culling decisions, along with evaluating the calf physically.
Tom Brothers will have a stout selection of AI sired SimAngus, Simbrah and SimAngus HT bulls for the 2013 Brush Country Bull Sale.

The only bull from the S011 x Upgrade mating and he is good! He's in the top 1% for API and TI and is homozygous polled. We are eager to see how this bull keeps developing!

A Simbrah bull sired by Top Grade. Top 1% API and a performance standout. He has a bonus 1/8 Angus and will breed purebred when mated to purebred Simbrah females.

A Sharper Image SimAngus heifer nursing on her mother. Sharper Image transmitted the performance he is known for with a very attractive look. We wished we'd used more of him this past breeding season!

The Spring 2012 bulls slated to sell in the 2013 Brush Country Bull Sale have arrived from our partners at Ford's Double S Ranch, Premier Beef, RX Simbrah and Filegonia Cattle Company. Yearling weights, hip heights, scrotal circumferences and carcass ultrasound data will be collected on them the third week of March. |
